In today’s competitive digital landscape, marketing and valuably engaging with the consumer is becoming a very challenging assignment. Consumers are becoming indifferent to advertising, whether it’s print, online or digital signage.
Marketers and agencies’ alike are beginning to design & develop Interactive experiences & products as popularity grows and marketers begin to understand the impact of an interactive experience in creating significant brand equity and word-of- mouth marketing.
I came across this unique, yet easy to implement augmented reality (AR) app. For those of you who are not so familiar with AR, it’s basically a live view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. This App is extremely effective for many reasons.
Firstly, it engages the consumer with the highly anticipated Avengers movie, exciting them in an immersive manner. This ultimately leads to word-of-mouth marketing, resulting in large hype about the AR experience prior to users seeing the movie on the silver screen. This is a really smart, yet simple way to indirectly market the movie to potential customers.
Secondly, the app closes the gap between the physical Walmart stores and the digital world. This ultimately results in fun activities and consumer-engagement, driving new & existing customers into specific Walmart stores. In today’s tough retail environment, it’s critical that retailers are driving their customers in-store, but complimenting this with a digital or mobile experience. This example demonstrates how to converge the physical and digital worlds, in a cost-effective way.

This shows that one doesn’t have to create the greatest app of all time to be effective and successful with consumers.
